Although the worship of images is very common in both Christian and non-Christian religions, this teaching is not in the Bible. We find this prohibition concerning the creation and worship of idols in the Decalogue: “You must not make for yourself a carved image […] You must not bow down to them.”(Exodus 20:4, 5). A warning repeated to Christians: “Flee from idolatry.” (1 Corinthians 10:14) and “Guard yourselves from idols.” - 1 John 5:21. (New American Standard Bible)
“You must not make for yourself a carved image […] You must not bow down to them.” - Exodus 20:4, 5
« Guard yourselves from idols » 1 John 5:21
The veneration of these pseudo-gods is a flagrant act of disrespect to the Almighty. Jesus himself declared: “You shall do reverence to the Lord your God, and worship him alone!” - Luke 4:8 (Bible in Living English)
